Continue ReadingIn the fall of 2008, Poliglot spent three months in Israel and the West Bank conducting interviews while volunteering as teachers of English and drama in local refugee camps. Neither Heaven Nor Earth is the product of these interviews and experiences, an original script that offers an urgent and unique look at the state of the region and the people in it today. Set to premiere Off Broadway in June 2010, this work of multimedia documentary theater echoes a call from both sides of the conflict for humanity, freedom, and a just peace.

We also served as volunteers with Project HOPE, teaching English and drama in the refugee camps of the West Bank city of Nablus.

The interviews and film we gather on our travels -- as well as blogs, newspaper articles, graffiti, and other found text and images -- all form the basis for original performance pieces. Our work breaks the traditional documentary theater mold by fusing movement, text, and film to create a compelling multimedia collage of scenes and stylzied representation.

We believe in hands-on humanitarian work. Wherever we travel, we aim not to simply visit as tourists, but to make a practical and immediate difference according to the needs and wishes of the local population. Aidwork also serves as research for script development - a way to fully immerse ourselves in a culture, understand the complexities of a problem, and investigate solutions.
